Shri. Sant Gyaneshwar Vidya Mandir

  • We would like to introduce ourselves as a group of volunteers who have adopted the village, Borsal, in the district of Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. It is about 160 Kms. away from Indore and shares its border with Maharashtra. The main languages spoken are Marathi and Hindi and the main occupation is farming.
  • What started as a small school called Shri Sant Gyaneshwar Vidya Mandir with just 7 students in 2008, has risen to 400+ students till the academic year 2021-2022. The relentless efforts of the school management committee and teachers have played a big role in increasing number of parents enrolling their children to school.
  • The main attractions for the parents to enrol their child to the school being caring and dedicated teaching staff and free uniforms, note books, text books, computer education etc.
  • The school now conducts classes from Junior KG till 10th Std. Considering the progress of the school, the Madhya Pradesh Education Board granted permission to operate classes for 10th Standard 2015 onwards and the first batch of 19 students appeared for the Board exam in the academic year 2015-2016.
  • Students of our school come from economically backward society, nearly 90% from households who work as farm labourers, the rest comprising children of underprivileged, tribal community . The school, till now, is totally run on donations from friends and social foundations; a generous part coming from Shri Subhasish Chakraborty Foundation, Bangalore. No government grant of any kind is available for the school.
  • The School also participates and promotes educational programmes like, School Chale Hum! an initiative by the Central and the State Government.

Impact

We can see that the hard work of the teachers and staff can be seen through results. But more importantly, over the years after seeing the upliftment of the children our greatest win has been the parents of these children coming forward and giving us a helping hand to explore the education of these children and expand our initiative to bring in more children from the neighboring villages to these schools. Parents have now started to understand the importance of education and want to create awareness about this.

This was our basic purpose from the very beginning, to not just create an educational stride but on a bigger front influence the people and make them understand what impact can education create on a child. That is exactly what has happened and we can very well see the results with our eyes. Sound of Earth Foundation is proud of our children and their will to educate and develop themselves. This is let us create new avenues like counseling and specialization for children to actually understand their strengths and use them to make their lives better.

Future

We aim to open 200 schools by the end of 2025, in the villages of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. We have seen what impact can be made with just one school and we are very much eager to spread that impact. Just imagine if one school can create so much of a difference, what development will 200 schools create? It is an ocean of opportunities for the children and a brighter future for these kids. It is only a matter of situation which has let these kids not reach their full potential and we are going to turn this situation around.

Sound of Earth Foundation is grateful for the contribution and involvement of volunteers from around the country.

We are proud of what we have accomplished and aim to go for more!
